Enrol by 25 October

To vote in the 2026 General Election, you need to be enrolled.

You can’t enrol to vote or update your enrolment details after midnight, Sunday 25 October.

If you’ve enrolled by midnight, Sunday 4 October, we’ll send you an EasyVote card, which makes voting faster and easier. If you’ve given us your email address, we’ll send your EasyVote card by email.

Enrol or update online

What if I’m enrolled at a previous address?

Your enrolment address should be the place you live in New Zealand, as long as you’ve lived there for one month or more by election day, Saturday 7 November.

If you’re enrolled at a previous address – for example if you’ve moved house without updating your enrolment details – you can still vote, but you may need to make a special vote. If your change of address means you are now in a different electorate, only your party vote will count.

What if I’m on the dormant roll?

If you’ve moved house since you enrolled to vote or last updated your enrolment details, and we have received returned mail from your previous address, you may be on the dormant roll.

If you’re on the dormant roll, you’re still eligible to vote – but you will need to make a special vote. If your change of address means you are now in a different electorate, only your party vote will count.

When you go to the voting place, our staff will look you up on the electronic electoral roll. They will be able to see if you are on the dormant roll and will give you voting papers.

What if I’m not enrolled before voting starts?

If you’ve not enrolled at any address by midnight, 25 October, you won’t be eligible to vote in the 2026 General Election.

Make sure you’re ready to vote

To make sure both your electorate vote and your party vote in the 2026 General Election will count, you should be enrolled at the address where you live. Enrol, check or update your details now.
