We publish statistics each month showing how many people are enrolled in each Māori electorate, general electorate, local council district, and council voting area.

Enrolment statistics

We also publish statistics showing the number of people of Māori descent on the Māori roll and the general roll, broken down by electorate and age.

Māori enrolment statistics

The following cumulative table shows roll changes and new enrolments for voters of Māori descent from 1 April to 10 July 2025, which was the deadline for Māori who were already enrolled to change rolls before the 2025 local elections. The number of electorates

The number of general and Māori electorates is calculated after each census by Stats NZ using population data from the Census and electoral roll data.

In 2024, Stats NZ calculated the number of electorates for the 2026 General Election. There will be 64 general electorates and seven Māori electorates.

The next time the number of electorates will be calculated is after the next census which is scheduled for 2028.
