Your Māori Electoral Option letter

If you're Māori and you're enrolled to vote, we sent you a letter at the beginning of April about the choice between the Māori roll and the general roll.

We sent these letters to all Māori voters on both the Māori roll and the general roll.

It’s an important choice. The roll you choose affects who you can vote for to represent you and your rohe in Parliament.

The 2026 General Election

The 2026 General Election will be held on Saturday 7 November. If you want to change the roll you’re on for the election, you need to do it by midnight, Thursday 6 August.

You can’t change rolls in the 3 months before the election.

If you're happy with the roll you're on, you don't need to do anything - your roll type won't change unless you tell us to change it.

If you want to change your roll, you can do it online, or by completing and returning the form we sent you.
