How do we identify accessible voting places?

All voting places are assessed for accessibility. We look for things like:

  • ramps or handrails at the entrance
  • any obstacles or uneven surfaces between the street and the building entrance
  • availability of parking, such as disabled or free parking
  • how close the venue is to public transport.

On the voting place map, accessible voting places are defined under three categories.

  • Full accessibility: Independent access to and within this building.
  • Partial accessibility: May have step, steep ramp etc. to enter the building.
  • None: No accessible access to building.

Voting places for the Deaf community

If you are Deaf and use New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) to communicate, these voting places will have onsite NZSL interpreters at set dates and times.
