Whare Pōti Māori

We work with communities to put voting places in locations where people go in their everyday lives. Voting places recommended by communities for their significance to local Māori are identified on our map as Whare Pōti Māori.

There are more than 220 Whare Pōti Māori nationwide, which include many marae, kura, wānanga and other community spaces.

67 Whare Pōti Māori are also bilingual (reo rua), so voters can go through the voting process speaking te reo Māori and/or English. These bilingual voting places are identified on the map as ‘reo rua’.

Whare Pōti Māori are open to all voters. If you are enrolled, you can vote at any voting place in Aotearoa New Zealand, whichever roll you’re on – Māori roll or general roll.
