A by-election is being held in the Tāmaki Makaurau Māori electorate to choose a local member of Parliament (MP).

Who can vote?

You can vote in the Tāmaki Makaurau by-election if you are enrolled in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate, or if you’re eligible to enrol in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate on or before Saturday 6 September 2025.

Are you eligible to enrol and vote?

If you live in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate area, but you are enrolled on the general electoral roll, you are not able to change to the Māori roll to vote in the by-election.

Your EasyVote pack

Voters enrolled in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate by will be sent an EasyVote information pack in the mail. This pack will include an EasyVote card and all the information you need to vote.

When can you vote?

Overseas voting will start on Wednesday 20 August and voting in New Zealand will start on Monday 25 August. Voting closes at 7pm on election day, Saturday 6 September.

About the electorate

A map of the Tāmaki Makaurau Māori electorate. The electorate stretches across Auckland from the Waitākere Ranges to Bucklands Beach. It includes most of the southern and eastern suburbs and Waiheke Island. It does not include the North Shore.

The Tāmaki Makaurau Māori electorate includes central Auckland south of the Harbour Bridge. It extends from Piha in the west to Waiheke Island in the east, and includes many of the suburbs around Manukau City. It overlaps or intersects with 15 general electorates.
