I don't support the change of splitting [street name] out of Mount Eden to Mount Albert. Epsom is an electorate that places a strong emphasis on education. The change would undermine the strong community of interest. People in Epsom have long voted for local representatives who share our values of aspiration and education.

Suggested solution

Keep the current boundaries of the Epsom electorate. The proposed change does not make sense!

To The Commission

I strongly object to the proposal to amend the Epsom electorate and ask that [street name], Mt Eden remain in the Epsom electorate rather than moving to the Mt Albert electorate.

Our reasons being:

We are around 1 km from Mt Eden village and the mountain itself - we are a significant distance from Mt Albert - it takes about 20 minutes to drive to Mt Albert! Mt Albert is not our local community and we have no connection with it.
Mt Eden village is where we live our daily lives - both driving and bussing through it to our workplaces, until recently our daughters education, eating out, posting parcels, visiting pharmacies, having items repaired, gifts purchased. We can do all of this within walking distance and do not even need to drive our car.
Epsom Girls Grammar School zone must align with the Epsom boundary - this is historic, significant, and an important driver as to why some live in this area
Balmoral and Greenlane West are natural boundaries due to the size of carriage way - why create new ones away from the main roads?
Thank you for your consideration.

Suggested solution

[street name], Mt Eden remains in the Epsom electorate and the Balmoral Road boundary is retained.

To Whom it may concern,

I strongly object to the proposal to move my neighborhood, north of Balmoral Road up to Herbert, Croydon, and Fairview Roads, from the Epsom electorate to the Mount Albert electorate. As a resident who recently purchased a home in this area, I feel deeply connected to the Epsom community and believe it makes no sense to adjust the boundary around our neighborhood, which lies close to the heart of the electorate.

Our daily lives revolve around Mount Eden, where we shop, access amenities, and engage in community activities—clearly aligning with Epsom, not Mount Albert. The Epsom electorate’s focus on education, particularly with the Epsom Girls’ Grammar School zone, unites our community, and splitting this zone would undermine our shared values. Furthermore, our neighborhood’s central location within Epsom makes it integral to the electorate’s identity. There are many other areas, particularly those further from the heart of Epsom, that could be adjusted instead to balance population numbers without disrupting such a core community.

Keeping our neighborhood in Epsom ensures our local representation reflects our priorities and maintains our community’s unity. I urge the Commission to reconsider this proposal and explore alternative options.

Thank you for considering my objection.

Sincerely,

Daniel

Ms Leanna Peachey

Dear Representation Commission,

I am writing to oppose the proposal to move my neighborhood, north of Balmoral Road up to Herbert, Croydon, and Fairview Roads, from the Epsom electorate to the Mount Albert electorate. I feel strongly connected to Epsom and believe our neighborhood clearly belongs in this electorate.

As someone actively involved in community groups within the Epsom electorate, I share common values with these groups, centered around aspiration and community cohesion, which are deeply tied to this area. My daily life revolves around Mount Eden, where I shop, attend local events, and use amenities—aligning with Epsom, not Mount Albert. Our neighborhood, close to the heart of Epsom, is integral to the electorate’s identity. The electorate’s emphasis on education, particularly with the Epsom Girls’ Grammar School zone, unites us, and splitting this zone would weaken our community. It makes no sense to redraw the boundary here when other areas, farther from Epsom’s core, could be adjusted instead to balance population numbers.

Keeping our neighborhood in Epsom ensures our local representation reflects our shared priorities. I belong with Epsom and urge the Commission to consider alternative options to maintain our community’s unity.

Thank you for considering my objection.

Sincerely,
Leanna

I have lived in Mt Eden/E[som my whole life. It is my community and the Mt Eden Village is walking distance from our home. It is where we shop, attend the community hall events, meet friends for coffee, see our doctor, everything. Our parents are also up the road in the Epsom area.

We ask you please to not change our St ([street name]) into a Mt Albery electorate. We have no ties to the community and in fact it is a 10 minute drive away to reach. It is not close by at all and makes no sense! This change doesn't just affect our sense of community but it also affects my daughters schooling. I went to Epsom girls and is walking distance from our home. The change of electorate will also affect her school zone. I ask you please do not change our Mt Albert. It is not the area we live in at all!

Suggested solution

Please do not change our feeling of belonging within the Mt Eden/Epsom community. It is where we live, breathe and contribute to our communtity. We do not live in Mt Albert, it is not even walking close.

I have owned houses within and lived in the Epsom electorate since 2002, and my family and I have owned and lived in [street name], Mt Eden since 2010. We spend all of our lives in the Mt Eden and Epsom areas. We have had nothing whatsoever to do with Mt Albert for the past 23 years and have no connection with that area. Our family and now adult children has grown up in Epsom, and we definitely look to Mt Eden and to Epsom for our day-to-day life - shopping, amenities and regular activities. We deliberately bought and renovated our home in [street name] knowing that it was part of the Epsom electorate. We feel very strongly that the proposed change of the electorate boundary is unreasonable and we wish to express our opposition to this in the strongest possible terms.

I want to object to [street name] being moved from Epsom to Mt Albert electorate. We identify as being part of the Eden / Epsom community, with relevant community interest including education. Mt Albert is not relevant for us. This also has the potential to put AGS and EGGS school zones at risk in the future, which would have a huge impact on our schooling options and house prices.

Our street ([street name]) is so well connected to the community and local shops of Mt Eden Village, Epsom and Newmarket. Our kids attend local schools of ANI, EGGS and AGS, where they make friends and grow together. I shop at these locals as part of my day-to-day life. If we are forced to move electorate to Mt Albert which, to me, is a foreign suburb, I would no longer feel having a sense of belonging. My family don't shop nor spend anytime in the Mt Albert area (and you will find that our neighbours on [three street names] would be similar). Our children go to the Epsom Library and Mount Eden is a short walking distance from our house. Our rate payments meant to contribute to our local community and places we visit in our day-to-day life!

Moreover, despite there is no known proposed change of school zoning for EGGS/ AGS/ ANI currently, there is a huge risk of our street getting craved out on future school re-zoning if [street name] is no longer part of the Epsom Electorate - This will inevitably have a significant negative impact to our house value. [street name] is one of the prime street at our local Mt Eden area, much closer to Epsom and Newmarket than Mt Albert, the boundary re-alignment simply does not make sense by removing the [two street names] from Epsom Electorate.

Suggested solution

If I read the reason for change for the Epsom electorate, my understanding is that the Epsom electorate has room to grow which I do not have a problem with. But the consideration should only be extended to include new streets / areas to get to the ideal number, and not disadvantaging the real locals losing their status and sense of belonging. For example, if Epsom must gain the 9% electorate population from Auckland Central, then the proposed 3% Maungakiekie to Epsom should not be allowed, as those are closer to the Maungakiekie/ One Tree Hill community. It seems to me that you are shifting one problem to another.

Alternatively, I believe it would make more sense for the southern boundary of Epsom to stop at "Balmoral Road/ Greenlane Road West corner and therefore the block (Greenlane Road West, Pah Road, Selwyn Road, Landscape Road and Mt Eden Road beyond Balmoral and Greenlane Road West” (snapshot) to go to either Mt Roskill or Maungakiekie Electorate.

If Auckland Central has been gaining its population so rapidly, perhaps a brand new electorate needs to be established rather than other electorates needing to shuffle and absorb.

Our street, [street name], is well-connected to the community and local shops in Mt Eden Village, Epsom, and Newmarket. Our children attend local schools, ANI, EGGS, and AGS, where they socialise and grow together. I patronise these local businesses as part of my daily routine.

If we were compelled to relocate to Mt Albert, which I perceive as a foreign suburb, I would no longer feel a sense of belonging. My family does not frequent the Mt Albert area, and you will find that our neighbours on [three street names] share similar sentiments.

Our children utilise the Epsom Library, and Mount Eden is conveniently located within walking distance of our residence. Our rate payments are intended to contribute to our local community and places we visit in our daily lives.

Furthermore, despite the absence of any known proposed changes to school zoning for EGGS, AGS, and ANI at present, there is a substantial risk that our street will be excluded from future school re-zoning if [street name] is removed from the Epsom Electorate. This would inevitably have a significant negative impact on the value of our property. [street name] is a prominent street in our local Mt Eden area, situated closer to Epsom and Newmarket than Mt Albert. Therefore, the boundary re-alignment does not make sense by excluding [two street names], from the Epsom Electorate.

Suggested solution

Upon reviewing the rationale for the Epsom electorate’s change, my understanding is that the electorate has the potential for expansion, which I do not object to. However, the consideration should be limited to extending to include new streets or areas to reach the ideal population, rather than disadvantaging the current residents who are losing their status and sense of belonging. For instance, if Epsom must gain the 9% electorate population from Auckland Central, the proposed 3% Maungakeikei to Epsom should not be approved, as these areas are closer to the Maungakeikei/One Tree Hill community. It appears that you are merely shifting one problem to another.

Alternatively, I propose that the southern boundary of Epsom be adjusted to terminate at “Balmoral Road/Greenlane Road West corner.” Consequently, the block (Greenlane Road West, Pah Road, Selwyn Road, Landscape Road, and Mt Eden Road beyond Balmoral and Greenlane Road West) should be transferred to either the Mt Roskill or Maungakeikei Electorate.

Given the rapid population growth in Auckland Central, it may be necessary to establish a new electorate rather than redistributing populations among existing electorates.

the street we live in connects in a safe straight path to Mt Eden retail and the community offerings in that area. The advantage is that the connecting streets are quite residential so it has meant safe travel for young and old walking and bicycles. This was important as a young family with children as we have been in the same house for over 20 years. The children had tuition classes for education and music all being in Mt Eden area.
Now as an older couple in our 60s we walk from our house to the Mt Eden area for friends and the retail at Mt Eden village.
So we naturally call Mt Eden and Epsom our home, so we consider this is also an important alignment to our view points in how this area develops and its offering to the community. We consider that the political boundaries as they currently are mean that we can vote within our neighbourhood.
the proposed boundary change will disenfranchise us from our natural neighbourhood which take away our voice from the community. The proposed boundary infers we are shopping and within communities which are across busy main roads and without easy access to them there never will be an opportunity for us to easily socialise and shop in the proposed new boundary. These would always be foreign.
The proposed boundary changes make no sense as there is no natural connection. They are actually disruptive for the community that you would break apart.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to formally express my strong opposition to the proposal to include a portion of the Mt Eden area within the Mt Albert electorate. While I understand the necessity of periodically reviewing and adjusting electorate boundaries, I believe this particular change would have significant and detrimental consequences for our community.

My primary concern relates to the impact on school zones. Many families in the Mt Eden area, including my own, have made long-term decisions and investments based on the existing school zoning. These boundaries are a critical factor in determining where to live, and they play a significant role in shaping the day-to-day lives of families. Altering the electorate boundaries in this manner would not only create considerable uncertainty but also disrupt established arrangements and place unnecessary strain on affected households.

Specifically, the proposed boundary adjustment could:

Force children to change schools;

Negatively affect property values; and

Disrupt long-standing community connections.

These disruptions would impact not only individual families but also the cohesion and stability of the broader community, which relies on consistency in local schooling and representation.

Beyond the issue of school zoning, I am equally concerned about the broader implications for our community's identity and political representation. Mt Eden has a distinct character and set of local priorities that are best served within its current electorate. The proposed change would risk diluting the voices of Mt Eden residents and undermine effective advocacy on the issues that matter most to our community.

I respectfully urge you to reconsider this boundary change and to give full weight to the serious consequences it would have for Mt Eden residents. Preserving the current electorate boundaries is essential for protecting both the interests of our community and the stability of our local schools.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely,
Abby

Suggested solution

I strongly urge you to explore alternative boundary adjustments in neighboring areas where the impact on school zones and community stability would be minimal. Shifting the Mt Eden boundary will cause significant disruption for families and the community, which is unnecessary and avoidable.

If a boundary change in Mt Eden is absolutely required, I ask that non-residential or less community-sensitive areas be considered instead, so that families are not forced to face changes in school placement, property value loss, and broken community ties.

This would allow the boundary review to meet its goals without placing an unfair burden on Mt Eden residents.

I am writing to strongly object to moving my street and the surrounding neighbourhood for Epsom to Mount Albert.
It makes no sense to reduce Epsom’s size when your report the NZ Electorate Boundary Review, states that the Epsom Electoral population is dropping (3.7% below quota).
Also, I and my family have no connection to Mount Albert. I don’t go there, visit there, and couldn’t tell you who the politicians are in that area. Whereas I visit Mt Eden, Newmarket, and there surrounding suburbs. This is where my day-to-day life is, and my children have attended school in this area. There friends are in the Epsom Mt Eden area.
I understand my Epsom electorate and care about the outcomes that occur within it.
However, I have no interest or understanding of Mount Albert. Is it the aim to disenfranchise and create even more disillusioned in the political landscape. I would have thought your role is to encourage people to participate in the electrical process.
If this change occurred, it is highly likely I won’t even bother to vote again. Several neighbours have also expressed this view.
I also believe this will divide the students attending Epsom Girls Grammar Schools Zone. With education lacking in Aotearoa why would you do that?
A connected community is a strong community. Why would you look to weaken or destroy a community.
So, I would strongly request that the Dominion Rd to Balmoral community remain within the Epsom electorate.

Suggested solution

Don’t make my neighbourhood change.
As Mt Roskill is close to the quota, I suggest you include the area Mairoro Rd to Tiverton Road into Mount Albert.
It appears of a similar size and is closer and likely more connected to Mount Albert. Surely that is a better solution.
Also, the option of retaining some of the expanding Auckland Central in Mount Albert is an option given there above quota numbers, per your report.
I would also suggest that with population growth increasing more rabidly out west, surely expanding that way is a long-term better option.

I firmly oppose this behavior. My family and I have taken root in this community for many years, and there are traces of our life everywhere here. Moving to another community is like cutting off the veins of our life. No matter how good the new community is, it can't compare with this sense of familiarity that has been integrated into our daily life. Staying here is the way to safeguard the integrity of our life.

Suggested solution

I want to stay in my original place
